Hindu College Delhi – A brief History : Hindu College was founded in 1899 by Late Shri Krishan Dassji Gurwale. Hindu College Delhi came into existence with a motive to provide nationalist education to the youth, while being non-elitist and non-sectarian. The college started in a humble building in Kinari Bazar, Chandni Chowk, and it was affiliated to Punjab University as there was no Delhi University in 1899. The college grew very well and in 1902, it faced a major problem. Hindu College didn’t have good infrastructure and Punjab University warned the college that the University would disaffiliate the college if the college fails to get a proper building of its own. Hindu College then shifted to a new property which was donated to the college. The college functioned from there till 1953. When Delhi University (DU) came into existence in 1922, Hindu College along with Ramjas College and St. Stephen’s College were subsequently affiliated to the University, making them the first three institutions to be affiliated with University of Delhi.

Hindu College has been consistently ranking as one of India’s top colleges. As per the list of top 10 DU colleges released by India Today Group along with Nielsen, Hindu college stands at number 3 for Arts, Commerce and Science courses.
